George A. Foster

George A. Foster Sr., 82, of Du Quoin, died at 1 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2001 at his residence.
Mr. Foster was born October 21, 1918 in Du Quoin, the son of George B. and Katherine (LaGrand) Foster. He married Arlene Kunkel on April 27, 1946 at Du Quoin, and she survives.
He was a retired farmer and had worked at Du Quoin Packing Co. for 35 years. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Du Quoin and the Adult Sunday School Class there. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a life member of Du Quoin V.F.W. Post 513.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene, of Du Quoin; three sons, George A. Foster Jr. and wife Sharon, Fred Foster and wife Chris, and Dean Foster and wife Helen, all of Du Quoin; a sister, Geraldine Oestreicher of Du Quoin; grandchildren, George A. Foster III, Amy Hamburger and husband Larry, Shane Foster and wife Stephanie, Travis Foster and wife Amy J., Matthew Foster, Natalie Foster, Melanie Foster, and Stefanie Dawn Foster; step-grandchildren, Steven and Stephanie Lynn Knapp; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Bryce Hamburger, Sydney Gilliam, and Dalen Fosters; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law and a niece.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 23, 2001 at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Kevin Weaver officiating. Visitation was Sunday evening at the funeral home. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park, Du Quoin, with military graveside rites conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. Post 513.
